It only took a single flower for me to love you;
Your emerald eyes that spoke so much emotion,
Rose colored lips that begged to be kissed,
Chestnut hair I longed to run my fingers through.
Innocent though you were, you'd seen so many things,
Things that no one should have to face alone.
You asked me to be your bodyguard after falling into your life.
I took the job for payment of a date,
From that point on I vowed to keep you safe from harm.
Now that everything is said and done I look to see your face,
But you're gone; taken in an instant.
No more to smile, laugh, cry, live, love.
Because of you I left my shell, my mask behind.
My heart was beating only for you,
Now it beats no more, just like yours.
You had promised to return when all is done,
It has ended, but you're not here.
I wish you'd never made the promise you couldn't keep.
