"No I don't think it's her, I mean I'm just not buying the idea that she could have been so brutal." We're talking ourselves round in circles here, or rather he and Robbie are I'm sitting back listening to them fight like two teenage girls. I've got to say in this instance I agree with Robbie Mrs McWilliams killed her son and I can't see why James can't see it too.
"James man your being an idiot. Look at the evidence why are you being so pig headed about it." Oh god Robbie's two steps away from blowing his top I should really step in and…..
"She's a forty eight year old mother I just don't see her having it in her to kill her daughter besides she's…..well I mean come on at that age she's not exactly doing to have the strength to cave in someone's head she…" Robbie is staring from him to me and back again in shock and he's just caught up with what he's said now the panic has started I can see it in his eyes Oh I'm going to enjoy this, I'm going to enjoy it a lot.
"Is that right James so what you're saying is that because she's a woman who happens to be headed for fifty she's not going to be capable of doing anything but sitting in the corner knitting and watching Eastenders?" He's squirming now and I can see Robbie out of the corner of my eye trying really hard now to laugh.
"Well no, it's just…it was her daughter and she was over 20 years younger and fitter and well Lauren McWilliams isn't exactly fit and she's…."
"She's ancient and wouldn't have the strength to lift a cricket bat?" I know I'm being horrible but I'm having too much fun to let him off the hook yet and Robbie knows it. "What you're trying to say is that once a woman hits 48 she's not good for anything."
"No of course not it's just that….."
"James have you never heard the saying when you're in a hole stop digging?" Robbie has taken pity on him now and I can't say I blame him the look of pure gratitude James is giving him now is priceless!
"Sorry ma'am of course that's not what I mean I'm just saying Lauren McWilliams specifically is unlikely to have committed this crime." Aww he's staring at me now with that pleading "please just let it drop" look in his eyes and I can't resist it.
"Then I suggest you work a bit harder and find us another suspect because right now I'm on Robbie's side. There's no other evidence to suggest that anyone else was in the house." He's nodding now and I can see the relief in his eyes. For now I'll let it slide, but later I have every intention of reminding him exactly what 48 year old women are capable of and I'll enjoy every minute of doing so.
