Things are never too easy with her; the adumbrate is necessary because she does not fall into an extreme. She just sort of skirts along the ravine.

He huffs in irritation and buries his face in the crook of his arm. She's got the glamour and glitter and oversized sunglasses of a star, but she can be so self-righteous, he hates it—

"You're kind of a bitch, y'know?"

There was a time when she would have given him a rigid glare to withold the tears in her gold-blue eyes (not that he really noticed her eye color or anything), and an angry sharp insult, and possibly an injury too; but now she just smiles and runs her fingers though his unruly hair, leans down to brush her lips against his in a way that is frustratingly chaste.

"You're kind of an idiot. I think it's cute."

He shifts his posture, pulling her down, the little star alongside the years-ago hero, the obnoxious teenage boy that she probably wouldn't have looked at twice, if that were all he was.

She really is self-righteous, and a little selfish too. But so is he, and he's stupid about it (she thinks it's cute!)—

And, well, he kind of loves her for it.
