Disclaimer: I do not own the epic series of talking kitty, no matter how much I wish I did.

In this one-shot, it's Gibson's first night at the cash household, and he can't sleep. Enjoy!

Chapter 1.

Gibson couldn't sleep. He lay, staring up at the ceiling trying to think of something to do.

The truth was, he didn't want to sleep. Every time he dozed off, a nightmare would overcome him and he would wake, up, heart pounding. It was the same nightmare over and over again. He could have walked around for a bit, cats didn't have specific bedtimes like humans, but he didn't want to face those dark corridors. He stayed in his basket by the backroom where there was a little light. It was only his first night there, and the kitten didn't have a clue what would happen if he went into the kitchen. Steve had gone up to bed hours ago and Sylvester, like Gibson wanted to be, was sleeping in his basket, His mind kept wandering, but he couldn't fall asleep again. He wondered how long he would be sitting here like this.. He heard a ban from upstairs and whimpered, hiding his face in the basket. He'd never been the only one awake before, he used to climb up on the human's beds and sleep beside them. Here he had no idea which room was Steve's and he didn't know if Steve would have the door open anyway. He didn't want to go out there anyway. There were probably lots of spiders, and it was too dark apart from the light from the neighbors light outside, but everything was suddenly getting darker and darker before he fell asleep. This time, he didn't have a nightmare. His sleep was finally peaceful and he relaxed, enjoying it.

When he woke up, it was light. Sylvester had gone from his basket and he could hear Steve talking. He smiled and jumped out of his basket, ready to start the day.

So there we go! First one done! Yay! I would very much appreciate suggestions as the terrible writers block often overcomes me. See you in the next chapter!
