Shadows on my Walls

There are shadows on my walls tonight. Shadows from things unseen. Shadows keeping me helpless. I want to be free. Set me free.

There's a voice in my head. It's telling me to stop. I don't listen to it. It's crap. It wasn't there when I joined this goddamn guild. It didn't tell me that being an assassin wasn't worth it. It's incoherent psycho babble.

Shintah's rushing here now. Good...I want him to clean up the muck I will leave. I look at the blade. It glimmered. Perfect. I planned to stab Shintah too. But I didn't want mud on my shiny, shiny blade. No, Shintah should enshrine my knife. Or maybe I should cast Envenom on the blade. Maybe anyone that touches it would be poisoned too. Then, I should try to leave it near the Emperium. Maybe Shintah would recognize me now.

"Rhyss! What are you doing here? The other guild is getting through our defense! Get out of here!"

"Hi, Shintah. Fancy meeting you here," I say.

"Rhyss! Didn't you hear me? The other guild!"

"A guild? Wow, you really want me to join?" I say.

"Rhyss?"

Shintah approaches me. Me and my good friend, my blade. Yes, my good friend.

"Isn't it funny, Shintah? How black isn't really a color but an absence of color?" I ask him loudly. Shintah seems confused.

"What are getting on, Rhyss?" he asks.

"Insanity is a state, Shintah. Insanity is one of the highest states of the mind, see. When your mind can't cope with all these thoughts, your mind gets flustered and breaks. Real slow-like, Shintah."

Shintah looks at me with a look of concern.

"Insanity is one of the highest states of mind decay. No, the highest. Yeah, Shintah. Shintah, do you remember Willhelm? Do you remember Tristan? Do you remember the priestess you killed? I think she was called Matilda. What do you think, Shintah? Maybe I should tell the authorities?"

Shintah paled. Then, the east wall burst open. Three knights, five wizards and a hunter emerged from the hole. I smile. I was happy now. I plunge the blade somewhere in the middle of my body. It hurt.

"It hurts, Shintah!" I scream. "It hurts! It hurts more than a Lord of Vermillion!"

Shintah approached me and grabbed my knife. I'm dizzy. I can't see well.

"ENVENOM!" I yell.

Shintah cries out. I got him as I got my blade. Served him right. He tried to part me and my friend. I yell too. Then, I walked towards my guild's Emperium, dizzily.

"Shintah. You went too far...You...done...Ia...I...Ian..."

I was losing it. I fell over. I could feel Shintah approaching.

"You were too weak, Rhyss. This is all your fault. I shouldn't have recruited you. Look, my guild is finished. The enemy has destroyed my guild. Wizards don't give up like this. You traitor. LORD OF VERMILLION!"

I tried to scream as I felt the lightning bolts. But they were too evil and hurting. No, they were my friends. Yes, my friends. I have seen the light. Now, I wish to be invisible. Wait...I am invisible...
