Hur hur. I exist. XP Actually, yeah. This drabble was written on a Court Records thread that contemplated the Gramarye power. So, I wrote this drabble. And have now decided to publish it. I'm not entirely sure why I titled it "Now Understand This," though. It might have something to do with my obsession with music...and I wanted a song title for this. Granted, the title fits. (It's a song by Boomkat, by the way.)
I'm starting to figure out my next fic (which is in the Ace Attorney-verse), but that won't come until I FINALLY FREAKING FINISH Nijuu-Jinkaku...
Disclaimer: Apollo and Phoenix are not mine. They belong to Capcom. If they were mine, well....yeah. ^///^
Apollo and Phoenix had been screaming at each other for what seemed like hours. Frankly, Apollo didn't get it.
"Mr. Wright! I was only doing my job! I had to go visit the crime sc--"
Phoenix's expression somehow managed to retain some remnants of quickly-fading composure. "Apollo..."
"--scene! I know it was pretty off limits, but I know my cl--"
"Apollo..."
"--client's innocent! There's no way I could just not go--"
"APOLLO!
He stopped. Phoenix's face seemed to be contorted in barely contained rage. He sighed to try and let go of those emotions. Unfortunately, he was a bit too worked up. "Apollo. That wasn't just a regular crime scene. That area is one of the worst for violence in the city. It's off limits for a reason. It was probably one of the most reckless things you could hav--"
Apollo scoffed. "No offense, Mr. Wright, but you're not one to go and tell me that I was 'reckless.' You've done worse in your career." He turned around, picked up his files, and walked to the door.
Phoenix lost it. "Listen to me, God dammit! It's because I've been so reckless that I can tell you what's safe and what's not! Listen t--Apollo!"
He reached for stubborn attorney and managed to grab his left arm, just above his bracelet.
Apollo felt a spasm jolt his insides, like his stomach had been punched, beaten, torn. His head was swimming, his heart racing. This is... He knew instantly that these feelings were not his--they couldn't be. There wasn't even a word he could use to describe the combination of emotions he was experiencing.
Apollo brought his hand around to grasp Phoenix's wrist. Both were surprised when Apollo turned around, tears streaming down his face.
"Apollo, what...?"
"I'm sorry. I'm...I'm so sorry. I--I shouldn't have done that. It was--"
"Apollo..."
"--the dumbest thing I could have done. I didn't know you f--"
"Apollo..."
"--felt that way, I didn't know you were so wor--"
"APOLLO!"
He stopped and stared at Phoenix, who displayed a strangely knowing expression.
"You talk too much, kid. ...I'm sorry, too." He put his hand behind Apollo's head and brought him forward, careful to avoid his wrist. "Ya know...your mom did tell me that your gramps had a talent for knowing what people were thinking..." He smirked.
Apollo hit his fist against Phoenix's shoulder. "Why, Mr. Wright? Why do you keep so many secrets?"
"Because that's my job. You're job, on the other hand, is to figure them out."
Apollo grumbled in response.
