Been a while since I wrote something, and with Bleach ending just a bit ago I wanted to do something for that series.
Wrote this in one sitting, so excuse the brevity and the obliqueness.
He didn't have a spirit that resided within him like Kurosaki and the other Shinigami did. He didn't have a few tangible fairies to encourage him like Inoue did. He didn't have a specific memento that he channeled his powers through, and to remind him of what was important, like Chad and Xcution did.
In the end he had nothing but a false God and a deluded cult who were torn apart by his once allies.
For all the momentum the Vandenreich had, for all the casualties they inflicted in the first two invasions, the moment the Soul King died everything went wrong. Their all-knowing, all-encompassing God could no longer see the future, and could no longer use most of his powers.
(And yet his grip on our souls remained as iron-hard as ever.)
Of course it came down to Kurosaki to finish the job. His sword and mask, resembling more of a bull skull then anything else, cut through the remaining Vandeneich soldiers, and even the Schutzstaffel, with unexpected ease.
Giselle, Bazz-B, Robert, and others all dispatched in seconds. Gerald's recovery attempts were stopped by a Cero of incomprehensible size, exterminating him down to the last cell. The "Light of God" was swallowed by a Getsuga of equal size, never to shine again. The Grandmaster of the Vandenreich died without ever realizing his head had been separated from his body.
No words, no attempts at soliciting him back to their side, were spoken by Kurosaki. Just a solemn apology as he cut through him, body and blade moving faster then he could react, and went onward to kill Yhwach.
Kurosaki understood. Even if he was as thick as ever, he knew some things couldn't be spoken and only be transmitted through other methods, even if they were as simple as a moments glance.
Even with his soul slowly fading, soon to be devoured by a screaming mad tyrant only a stones throw away, Ishida died happy. He knew that their "King" had nothing left. No powers, kingdom, no followers, nothing.
