This is just a very short little drabble inspired by a chapter story I'm writing for Mariko, an Inuyasha OC of mine I created like 10 years ago. Maybe 11. It came to me just one day thinking about Kagome and Inuyasha but then it went a different direction and ended up as this. I like writing out these little burst of brainstorms to help flesh out my writing skills and ideas.
The title was inspired by a song called "Bella Donna" by Stevie Nicks.
I do not own Inuyasha which was created by Rumiko Takahashi.
Hope you enjoy it!
Kagome always possessed a warm, glowing smile. Now, it was slightly different. Three years gave way to a more definite bone structure and figure hidden under the miko clothing she changed into upon returning from her world beyond the well. However, the physical features of her face were not the only source of her new smile. There was something in her eyes that I couldn't quite figure out whenever Inuyasha was near, which was almost always, and it seemed to reflect into Inuyasha's face as well. Whatever it was, it made me happy as well for some reason.
I was studying them from a distance while I played with the monk and slayer's twin girls when Lord Sesshomaru approached me after his visit with little Rin who wasn't as little as when I first met them. I didn't notice that my head had tilted to the side slightly until the twins started calling me a "doggy."
I smiled at the girls, saying, "Why don't you girls go try to find the fox?" They happily accepted my suggestion, laughing as they skipped away. Sesshomaru didn't say anything to me, so I said to him, "Inuyasha must be happy now that Kagome is back." His only reply was a grunted "hn," and then he walked away. I shot him a playful snarled expression that he fortunately did not see before I stood up to follow him into the woods to meet with Jaken who was with Ah-Un.
"I know most demons can't love, but I think it must be exhilarating to experience a feeling so deeply that it can manifest within you physically," I rambled on to him during our walk, not expecting much of a reply again. "I think I would like to experience it myself one day."
Rather, he did reply quite harshly, "Then you are a fool, Mariko. Would you like to be as weak and easily manipulated as those humans?" One of my eyebrows raised in response to his hypocrisy. He had no right to call me a fool when he would without hesitation react to any sort of threat towards the human girl Rin. Although, I took his words with a grain of salt knowing he couldn't see past his own human-like emotions, or maybe he could and just wouldn't admit them.
"Don't forget, I was raised believing I was a human when my parents hid me away to avoid risking their kingdom. I didn't understand what it means to be a demon anymore than Inuyasha did when he and his group helped me find out who I was. I don't value power and strength in a demonic context the same as you."
He stopped in his tracks to face me and remarked, "And you should not forget who it was that reunited you with your real family."
"Only because you were so interested in my ability to use my power of mental control on a demon as powerful as you."
"Hence my point," he replied, then started walking off again. "It is needless of you to waste your power in searching for something beneath you as a youkai."
Using my quick speed, I appeared so close in front of him that my nose was almost touching one of the spikes sticking out of his armor. Forcing his golden eyes to lock with mine, I asked him, "Then, what should I use it for?"
