Roz couldn't believe this was happening to her. She was all alone in the hospital, in labor, scared out of her mind. Having this kid was the most difficult decision she'd ever had to make, and at times she questioned whether or not she made the right one. But what she was counting on was having the support of her friends and she couldn't even get ahold of them. It was so bad she was thinking of calling in Bulldog, Gil and Noel. That's how scared she really was.
Where on earth was Frasier? She couldn't remember him talking about some gala event but then again she probably blocked him out. How could he just desert her when she needed him more than ever? Roz wasn't an emotional woman but having contractions coming every ten minutes apart made her a little more emotional than she normally would be. But she found herself really missing Frasier. She couldn't imagine doing this without him by her side. They'd talked about it and he'd promised he'd be there for her and that he wouldn't let anything happen to her…Oh no, what if something happened to her or her baby and Frasier wasn't there to take care of things? He would know what to do, he always knew what to do. That's one of the reasons she loved him.
Roz stopped to think about what she had just thought to herself- did she love him? Frasier had been her best friend for so long that she had come to take him for granted so at times like this his absence caused a panic in her life. He was always there for her, always willing to take care of her whenever she'd had a new crisis in her life without asking for anything in return. She gave him grief more times than she could count but he knew that she didn't mean anything by it; that was just her way. He knew her, he knew everything about her and yet he still loved her. Maybe in the way she was thinking, maybe not, but Roz decided that after this baby was born it was definitely time to explore those feelings. If she was this panicked after losing him for a day, how would she feel about losing Frasier for a lifetime?
She turned around on her side, trying to get some of the pressure off her back when there was a knock on her door. "Who is it?"
"It's me."
She turned back over. "Frasier. You came!" And then she started to cry.
"Why are you crying? I told you I would be here for you when you haveyour little one. I'm here now. It's going to be okay. In just a few hours you're going to be a mother and you're going to forget all about your pain."
"I know Frasier but I just thought… when you weren't here… I just got to thinking."
"Roz I'm sure you're just feeling a little tired and a little stressed from your situation. I'm sure that in a few hours everything's going to look much clearer," Frasier said as he took Roz's hand.
She was sure he was right. Maybe it was their time, maybe it wasn't. But he would be there for her on the happiest day of her life, and for that she would always consider herself lucky. Who knew what the future held? But the possibility of what might be both soothed her and excited her, and she wished she could talk to Frasier about this. He could explain this to her, boy could he explain this. But just for now she would keep it her little secret, just between her newborn daughter and herself. One of these days she'd let her guard down but until then she'd keep her secret safe for now. Just for now.
The end
