Athena's Blessing

Chapter 1

The gods of old have always been intertwined with the wizarding world. It was after all the Greek goddess Hecate that granted magic to the humans, who we now know as wizards. These wizards however did not just pray to Hecate, they prayed to Athena as well, because they wanted continual knowledge of magic, they wanted to improve their society and learn how to govern. Athena granted this request which eventually led to the downfall of the gods of old. Once they learned how to do things themselves, the forgot about the gods, the forgot to pray and gradually, they were removed.

In the 1980's Athena was visiting the wizarding world in Britain, she had been prayed to for the first time in a century, Sirius Black of the Ancient House of Black, one of the ancient houses that prayed to her all those centuries ago. She came because she was curious, not because she cared. But what she saw before her, truly shocked her.

"Lady Athena, I truly need your help, I ask as a member of the Ancient House of Black. Help us defeat the evil Lord Voldemort. You are a revered warrior and your knowledge is great. I will be forever in your debt" Asked Sirius

"Your request interests me, I must admit, I came here and I was going to deny you, but I am inclined to help. Your request however will come at a price. I do not know yet how I will defeat this Lord Voldemort, but I do know that to take a life, another must be taken as a passage. I do not know who that will be. Second as a life is lost, a life must be born. I can grant that, I can grant a child of mine. Are you prepared to pay the price, knowing that someone will die because of your actions and to raise the life of another?" replied Athena

"I am, I will pay whatever price to end this war" Sirius said with earnest.

"Then it shall be done, you will have a child delivered to you, once the war is ended. Goodbye for now Sirius" Athena said while fading out of view

The days went by, on an on. His godson Harry was eventually born, he was so proud, by October, he thought that Athena had reneged on their deal. But then it all happened on the 31st October, the war was over. His best friends Lily & James Potter dead. Apparently, lily had sacrificed herself for Harry and the power of love defeated the dark lord. Sirius knew the truth, Athena was behind it. When he got home that day there was a baby in a cot, with a note asking him to take care of his new child, Annabeth Black.

Sirius was going to go after Peter Pettigrew, but once he saw the precious child in front of him, he knew he could not. He went to the house and took baby Harry and brought him home to the black mansion where his mother had allowed him to return, included him back in the family with his child and heir to the blacks. He had also blood adopted Harry, making sure that he would take care of his best friend's son for the rest of his life.

Later, that night Dumbledore appeared in the foyer of the black mansion to seek out Sirius

"Sirius, listen to reason, he will be safer away from the magical world, he needs to grow up with Dursley's behind the blood wards"

"Dumbledore, he's just as safe behind normal wards, I blood adopted him, the blood wards will erect around this place too. I understand why you would want him to grow up out of the spotlight, and I will do my best to make sure that it does not affect him, but he needs to know his place in this world and how to act. I refuse to let you take him, I owe that much to James & Lily" commanded Sirius

"I must insist I…." protested Dumbledore

"NO, if you cannot understand, then you can leave. Mother, please show our guest the door." Sirius said, gesturing to his mother

"But Sirius, you hate this house and family, why would you return, you can't do this" Dumbledore once again protested

"I can and will, I am the heir to the Ancient House of Black and if you must now, having a child, a beautiful little girl has humbled me, I understand now more than ever, that your time in this world is short and you must always have your family around you no matter what" Sirius said with an arrogant tone in his voice

With that Dumbledore was shown out of the Black mansion, with shock visible on his face. Harry was going to grow up with Sirius and his new daughter in the magical world. When did Sirius even get a child, this was a major shock, where and who was his mother. Dumbledore's thoughts were running wild.

Meanwhile inside the house of black, Sirius was sat discussing with his mother his return to the house of Black and how it would impact the world. That night there was a house meeting called, blacks from all round the world, came to reaffirm their allegiance to the house black and it's heirs, to bless both Harry Potter-Black and Annabeth Black.

These two children would grow together, year after year. It was not long before Sirius' mother died and he became the Lord of Black. Sirius always knew there would be one day when he would have to tell his children the truth about their heritage, that day was not today however. Sirius was a changed man, he was ready to grow up and embrace parenthood. After all these children were running circles round him and making him old. The night after the accident and every night after, Sirius prayed to Athena. He swore he would bring back the god's status in their world!
