Destruction. That's all people care about in war. Mortar shells fall all around me exploding killing the squad I was assigned to just 2 weeks ago.

"Get to cover!" Sgt. Gorge Rivers yells as we sprint away from all the mortar shells. I'm the first one to get into the one building that had not yet been destroyed by the mortars. Followed by my friend Pvt. Jordan Adams, but Sgt. Rivers. He wasn't so lucky

"Sergeant no!" I run to him avoiding every shell that came my way. When I reach him he is already halfway dead. As I drag him to the safe point he's saying something. I couldn't here him because of all the mortars but he was probably saying leave me I'm a dead man. I already knew that but no excuse to leave him out there to get blown up more so that there won't be a single thing left for his funeral.

"You're a crazy son of a gun you know that wells?" he said once we got inside. I didn't bother calling for a medic. I knew he didn't have long

"One of my traits Rivers." I told him. Then came his last words.

"Don't die on me corporal." He said and slowly let out his last breath.

"He's gone." Jordan said. But I could thin about was him calling me a corporal. I was a Pvt. That meant one thing. Did he just promote me? Then I suddenly heard the roar of a blackbird.

"Everybody on the helicopter where leaving." The helicopter gunner yelled. So I grabbed rivers and we where out of there

"Why did you bring rivers chase?" Jordan asked me.

"Simple. He was a good man and a hero. He deserves a hero's funeral," I said "and I also want to tell his family my self."
