Konata Izumi waited in line for her exam.
"Hey, Kagamin!" said Konata.
"What is it?" replied Kagami.
"How's your health?"
Kagami let out an annoyed sigh. "How can I tell you what I don't know yet?"
"Just as well; I hate spoilers."
"It's not like it's any of your business anyway."
"Aww, Kagami afraid of telling her secrets?"
"Just wait in line quietly like everyone else!"
"If that's what you want..." Konata said, fake-crying.
Waiting in line can be boring at the best of times, especially when waiting for something one would rather have over with. Eventually, though, it was Konata's turn.
"If I don't come back alive," Konata said melodramatically, "tell Dad to erase all my game saves!"
"Get in there!" said a visibly irritated Kagami.
Konata entered the nurse's office and sat where the nurse indicated.
[A/N: I don't read the manga, and as far as I know the anime doesn't give the nurse a name, so please bear with me.]
"Let's check you out now, Izumi," said the nurse.
Konata just sat silently, not offering her usually remarks.
The nurse did a thorough examination of Konata's physical condition, including the obligatory reflex tests. How making someone kick involuntarily was a good health indicator was a mystery to Konata.
After it was all done, the nurse explained the results.
"So, that's pretty much it," she said.
"So..." said an unhappy Konata, "no changes." Not that she expected any.
"I'm afraid not. I'm sorry to say, it shouldn't be suprising, considering your family history."
"I dunno, it just somehow seems unfair to blame her for this."
"Well, as usual, I'll have to advise you not to overexert yourself," said the nurse. "And don't worry. As always, this is between the two of us."
Konata sighed and stood up, having been yet again reminded of the real reason she stayed out of sports clubs...
She put it out of her mind and exited the office. She was going to that crazy anime guy's store after school to finally buy something from him. Maybe that would lift both their spirits.
Soon, Kagami's exam was over.
"It's the usual," said Kagami.
"Body image issues?" said Konata.
"Well, gee, I wonder where I got that from?" a moment passed. "It's only fair that you say how yours went."
"Well..." Konata hesitated before putting on a smile and saying "Clean bill of health, as always!"
