Speed Racer Sr. Pov

Speed's only one month old — an innocent baby in the middle of this chaos. I never realized that the crash would ruin everything. Not just for her but our children. For X who was with my brother Spritle. I would have to do this to Speed. My eyes looked up in the review mirror as his soft coos and gurgles from his car seat. Focusing my eyes back on the road I could feel the tears begin to swell in my eyes. He never wanted this to happen. Leaving X with Spritle was dangerous enough. X knows my face and will call me 'dada' if he wanted to. Speed, however, was too young to remember my face or even to know who I am. I had to force myself to believe that this was the best decision for both for my children. Glancing at the passenger seat, he took one final note of the items left for him: a red bandana, keys to the Mach 6, and a letter. Pulling several feet away from the orphanage I went to sit in the back seat with him, stroking his thumb against his slightly rosy cheeks.

"Speed, I want you to know that I love you so much. I am only doing this to protect you. All of the people that are after me would never hesitate to hurt you or your brother. One day I promise we will be a family again."

I leaned my head down to kiss his small forehead. Speed's tiny hand gently smack against my cheeks, as if he wants me to stay there. Carefully taking hold of his hands, I pulled away from his face. Reaching for the passenger seat, I grasp the items and place them carefully around him. Picking up the blanket from the car floor I gently put it over his body to protect him from the cold he would soon face. I unbuckle his car seat I carefully take him out of the car. Closing the door quietly behind me I walk up the steps of the orphanage. It felt too real in a manner of speaking. I was actually giving up my son. I will never possibly see my son ever again. It was as if I was having an out of body experience. My body moved with ease up the steps as my heart kept screaming for a second option. I began to run every different scenario if I placed him with someone else. I soon realized i had more enemies than allies, leaving me little choices. I set him on the doorstep, moving the blanket to see him one last time — one last glance at his beautiful face. His eyes were slowly closing into a slumber.

"Goodbye Speed," I whispered,

I move the blanket back over his face before ringing the doorbell. For extra assurance someone would come to the door I began to pound on the door. Hearing shouting on the other side, I quickly fled back to my car. I watched from the car to see a woman look around before picking up the carrier and taking him inside. I'm sorry Speed. Starting the car again I leave before changing my mind.
