Story Title: A Simple Kill

Author: Hawk Martin

Disclaimer: I do not own HP, I do not own HP, I do not own HP, but—guess what? I do own you.

Dedication: To J.K. Rowling for being so rich that I just had to screw up her characters.

A/N: Yeah, it's a plot twist. One that I take full credit in making, so if you even begin to think that you can steal this, you'll have one very pissed off Irish chick on your hands. I came up with this, and I'm proud. So there. So…you have to pay attention else you won't see the twist. Otherwise, have fun.

Summary: "…The world is a cruel place, he's learned, and one must remain detached when faced with either insanity or annihilation. However, secretly, he considers them one and the same."

Notes: None, actually. Beginning italicized; ending italicized. Important sentenced bolded. Woot.

Rating: PG. I will not right a G fic, damnit. Just dig deeper for the dirty stuff…it's there, I promise. Really.

Warning: Do not run into the walls—you may hurt the wall.

Killing used to be easy.

Perhaps nothing has changed. When faced with the scarlet twirling of yet another death, he finds himself sneering at the prospect with immortal triumph and bitter indifference. The world is a cruel place, he's learned, and one must remain detached when faced with either insanity or annihilation. However, secretly, he considers them one and the same.

There's a certain level of madness in all things. The blue reflections of warmth in his eyes have long since been tainted and now a placid ocean has been replaced with the scarlet walls of Hell. Killing used to be easy when the emotion remained but now oblivion has scarred his impenetrable soul. And perfection, like an intoxicating drug, has level his mind.

These are thoughts that scare Tom Riddle in the middle of the night, as he wears his mask of Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts.

After all…killing used to be easy.
