Cristina Yang didn't like watching. Watching wasn't something she was good at. She could only ever show her talent when others were watching her. And right now, even though it was her husband, Owen Hunt, she was watching, she still couldn't handle not being down in the operating room clamping aortas, or doing cardio work.
"We need suction! He's crashing!" Owen called.
Cristina had enough. She got up out of her seat in the gallery, and walked out. She walked down the many hallways of Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital, trying to find Meredith.
"Kepner, where's Mer?" Cristina found April in her office, sorting out the OR board for the next day. She turned into the office, standing before April, waiting for her to respond.
April looked up, franticly.
"You didn't hear?" she whispered, on the verge of tears.
"Didn't hear what?" Cristina demanded harshly, suddenly worried. What had happened?
"Meredith and Alex were… transporting a new born to another… another hospital, but they… the ambulance broke down in the middle of the… road…" The tears came from April's eyes as she couldn't hold them in any longer.
Cristina didn't find what was wrong with that.
"Well then send something out for them. Send them another ambulance."
"We can't. We… we don't know where they are, and the… cellphones aren't working…" Cristina still couldn't find what was wrong. Yeah, Meredith and Alex may be stranded for the night, but it's not like they were going to die.
"So…?"
"They –" Beep, beep, beep. Cristina looked down at her pager, before running out of the room.
As she neared OR 2, the OR she had just left, she immediately knew something was wrong. Almost all of the doctors in the OR were huddled around something on the ground, the patient ignored. Cristina rushed into the scrubbing area, wrapping a scrub cap around her head as she went, preparing to enter the OR. As she was about to grab a mask and enter, the mass of people moved, and she got a clear view of what they were all huddled around.
The ginger hair was visible through the scrub cap.
Cristina couldn't move at first, as the other doctors started chest compressions. She stood routed to the spot in horror, as she watched them take him away on a gurney. Finally she came out of her trance, and rushed for the door to enter the OR. Her path was blocked by Miranda Bailey though.
Tears started falling down Cristina's face, as she gasped. She couldn't find her voice to speak, but desperately tried to gesture to Owen's retreating form. But Bailey wouldn't let her move.
"Cristina, he's…"
