"What do YOU think Eugene?" Everyone's heads turned to the newest royal member. "Me?" Eugene looked up from the table. "Yes," the king replied. Rapunzel nodded in reassurance. "Well," Eugene gulped looking down the long table of judges. "I think you ought to take me into consideration while discussing this subject." The judges turned to each other and murmured amongst themselves. "How do you mean?" The Queen asked gently. "You are discussing criminal justice and punishment." "What is your point son?" inquired an elder sitting at the far end of the table. "My point is before this," Eugene gestured to the room they were filling. "I was a criminal; a thief to be exact." The judges began to whisper again. "I wasn't just any thief either, oh no, I was a palace thief." "But look at how you've changed," the king advertised. "That's exactly my point your highness. I HAVE changed." Rapunzel took Eugene's hand. The king looked at Eugene puzzled. "I was in your dungeon sir. I was given the death penalty. Now I am sitting in the very castle where I was held prisoner, as a prince." "Yes but..." "Answer me this Sire, if I did not return your daughter, would you have given me a second chance?" The judges sat silently waiting for the king's response. The king looked at his wife. "A person isn't his or her past. That's all." Eugene leaned back in his chair. The judges were awestruck. "Well Eugene," the king pushed his palms down on the table and rose from his seat. "You are very wise." He reached out his hand to Eugene. "I'm glad to hear your perspective. Starting today, there shall be no more death penalties for any committed crime in any such prison in this country." The king, queen, and all the judges signed the document. Rapunzel pulled Eugene into a hug. "I'm so proud of you!" "Uhhh Blondie, I can't breathe." "Oops. Sorry," Rapunzel chuckled.
