AN: So...I'm actually writing this in the thirty minute span of time before I leave to spend time with some friends.
The prompt I used to write this will be listed at the bottom of the story.
Enjoy.
The looks he was getting were infuriating him, but the panic over not being able to get Dave to shut the everloving hell up overrode it quite a bit.
"C'mon, little man, stop crying." Dirk found himself saying almost pleadingly, bouncing the crying two year old.
One of the people sitting beside them glanced over at this and then looked back at his phone, a faint smile showing.
Half of the almost hour long ride was filled with Dave's crying and Dirk was slowly losing his mind.
"Please stop..." Dirk mumbled to the crying child he had cradled in his arms, feeling as if he had lost all control.
Once again, the person sat beside him looked over and smiled when Dave caught his eyes.
And miraculously, Dave slowly stopped crying.
Dirk blinked before he looked up at the stranger. "Who..how...?" he trailed off, looking away for a moment before he looked back. "Who are you?"
"Jake English, at your service,"
The british lilt to the words surprised Dirk, but he felt as if it really shouldn't have. The elder Strider gave a nod. "I'm Dirk Strider,"
"So, the kid?" Jake asked warily. "Is he...?"
"My kid brother,"
They were quiet for a moment, the only sound the soft hiccuping breaths coming from Dave as he drifted off slowly in his brother's arms.
It was a bit before they started talking again.
"Thanks for...you know...getting him to stop crying,"
Jake shrugged. "It's no problem. A loud, hectic environment like this, plus your panic, it's natural that he was crying."
Dirk nodded quietly.
At any rate, the rest of the ride was less than eventful, but filled with absentminded chatter.
This is so short...but oh well.
Prompt: "i'm on the bus and my 2-year-old won't stop crying, except you just smiled at them and they did"
