Merlin Drabble
Based on the song, "Because of you" by Kelly Clarkson. I was listening to this song and watching Merlin and this idea just came to me. So let's see how it goes!
Disclaimer: I don't own Merlin!
Trust. One word that defines all that friendship is based on… One word that defines all that love is supposed to supply… One word that, if broken, could leave you scarred and afraid for the rest of your life.
He had trusted once. He had trusted Morgana, his half sister that he never even knew about. And she betrayed it, for power and the throne, forever scarring his trust of those he viewed as his siblings.
He had trusted Lancelot, the man who willing given up his love for Gwen and his life for Camelot, only to betray him and take Gwen away from him on their wedding night. This broke his trust in those he viewed as friends.
He had trusted Guinevere, his one and only true love, but she too broke his heart and left, with another man, without an explanation. He didn't need one of course, she had obviously not loved him. He no longer trusted his battered heart to a lover.
And he had trusted him. His best friend, the one who had stood by his side, the one that gave him the council he needed, the one he had spilled all his inner most thoughts to. Merlin practised magic. He had lied to him all these years, pretending to be someone who he wasn't, pretended to be his friend while all that time he had been betraying him. This broke Arthur's heart into so many pieces, it was beyond healing.
He had come to realise that the only one who hadn't betrayed his trust was his father. The way forward was clear, his father could be trusted and it was his father's view that all magic should be destroyed.
So, as he watched as the pyre was lit, he told himself 'It's your fault because you lied, Merlin. It's all because of you'. The traitor screamed as the flames licked his body.
And Arthur watched.
AN: Wow… um, I never really meant it to go that… dark. Still, it is probably something I would read so someone out might like it. Sayonara!
