Far Away For Far Too Long
She had loved him far away for far too long.
She had loved him since she was ten years old. Like at the age of ten you knew what love was. He was the older guy. Eighteen. Her brother's best friend. Not fully understanding, his blue had done it for her, those eyes made her fall in love with him. They drew you in and never let go. You could see every emotion, every thought.
He'd made her feel wanted, made her feel like she mattered, made her feel loved. That was when she was ten. It had been eight years since she had seen him. Oh, how she missed him, she never noticed how much until tonight. Standing there across the small bar she saw him surrounded by friends. She didn't know how she knew it was him, it had to be the eyes, no one else had those eyes. He looked up at that moment. He was staring at her trying to figure her out like a puzzle. He wasn't moving, he wasn't talking, he was just staring at her with his gorgeous blue eyes. She looked away quickly.
She had been sixteen when her family moved away to Boston. She hated Boston, she wanted New York. She had kept in touch with his mother, she knew that he was a Detective now. Something she was sure made his father proud, it certainly made her proud. He had achieved something he wanted. Something made for him.
She looked up again. He was still watching her with that intense gaze. She kept the courage to stare back at him, wondering if maybe, just maybe he knew. He hadn't changed much over the years. He was stronger, had a bigger build. He was tall, always had been compared to her 5'2" frame. His hair was a little darker and shorter. His eyes though still blue held wisdom, pain and love. He had felt pain and he had felt love and experienced he pleasure and the pain of love. He had felt the love of the job and he had felt the horrors of the job. His eyes now held his knowledge. His strength.
His mother said he asked about her from time to time. Wanting to know how she was and what she was doing. At that moment she looked away once more before locking eyes with him again. She didn't know what possessed her but she go up out of her seat and walked towards him. As she drew closer she didn't realize that his friends had grown quiet and were watching the pair. The only thing she could see was him. He smiled. She smiled. Stopping in front of him, she saw his eyes smile. She smiled even more.
"Hi Don." She whispered so quietly he almost didn't hear.
"Hi Jewels." He replied just as softly.
She had loved him from far away for far too long.
He had loved her from far away for far too long.
Perhaps she could move a little closer. Stepping up to him she hugged him softly. He pulled her in tightening his hold on her.
"I missed you." He whispered into her hair.
"I missed you too." She whispered back.
Backing away so their faces were almost touching, she could see that she had indeed loved him from far away for far too long.
She could see that they had loved each other from far away for far too long.
