Katherine Proton did not like having her options taken away from her.
She was a Ravenclaw for a reason.
It was exhilarating to choose which option was best for her.
And being engaged to Sirius Black was not the best for her at all.
Katherine had no idea at all that she was to marry the immature Gryffindor and she detested him even more when he saw her surprised face when their parents declared their engagement at the dinner that her parents had held for the Blacks.
She even went as far as begging her father to break the engagement. She couldn't marry someone like Sirius Black. He was a bully, a troublemaker and a pompous and immature boy. No, she couldn't.
"Kitty, I'd be mad to break the engagement. You don't know how much honor you'll have, marrying into one of the most ancient and noble pureblood families of Britain," her father told her gently. "I want the best for you and Sirius Black is your best option."
As a pureblood she knew that one had to make sacrifices in one's life. And her sacrifice was to marry a man who liked her no better than she liked him.
