a/n: perfectlightlover : How about a quick scene with the Dregs? Or at least Wylan
Disclaimer: Nope!
Title: dead night
Word Count: 328
Summary: Just two boys making a dead body disappear. Usual date night stuff. [tumblr prompt]
The dead body began to disappear under the heavy layers of dirt.
Wylan wiped the sweat from his forehead and leaned against his spade. "I don't like this," he muttered. His shoulders slumped, the urge to collapse face-first in the graveyard dirt felt promising.
Despite the cool night, he was sweating and his nerves prickling with the fear of being caught. Because, yes, this plot of land was owned by Wylan's family, but it would be hard to explain why he and Jesper were out at such a time with a dead body. No, the first issue would be explaining their whereabouts and then the corpse.
What if one of the guards in a nearby property saw them, what if the rival gang was tipped off, what if Kaz wasn't thrilled with their job?
Jesper knelt to the ground, his features almost hallowed like a saint in the weak bone-light. But with his shirtsleeves rolled up to his elbows and hair in disarray, Wylan was thinking unholy thoughts about his boyfriend. "That's enough merchling."
Wylan brought the spade closer to his chest. There was a fingertip still visible. The skin waxy and pale and undeniably human.
There was a subtle shift beneath his feet as Jesper manipulated the dirt to dig itself into the body, through the eyes and nose and ears and pores, dragging the body deeper into the earth that even the best-trained hounds couldn't sniff out. There was a rumble, a groan of rocks moving, and it suddenly looked as though the ground had never been disturbed.
Jesper stood and wiped the dirt off on his patterned trousers. "That wasn't too bad." He grinned as his stomach grumbled. "Up for a bite before heading back in?"
"Oh," Wylan said, "now we can go back to our date?"
Jesper looked at the grave and then their surroundings. "Burying bodies isn't romantic enough for you?"
Wylan glared.
