Coming home…
His hand reached out and caressed the worn weathered wood of the wheel. The feeling sweeping over him was like coming home.
He remembered the many times spent motionless trying to remember every part of the Black Pearl, down to her every board and nail, every feeling he associated with his ship. Hours spent mentally walking through every deck and room, touching, reassuring her in this exact way. Nothing could compare.
The Black Pearl recognized her Captain, her true captain; the one that she had awoken to on her deck and the only one that she acknowledged. She would accept none other.
He had heard the rumors. The Black Pearl tilting suddenly and strangely in a storm, throwing half of her crew into the turbulent seas, the wheel breaking free of the rope that bound it and flying rampant, sails tangling and refusing to fold or unfold.
Decks slippery hours after they should have dried strange noises in the store rooms, doors that refused to open or close. The things that made the rest of the world decide that the ship was cursed.
All that she was was loyal.
There was an air of disbelieve surrounding him. As though this wasn't real. Just another one of his dreams and fancies. A desire so strong that it was almost alive.
He could feel his ship under him, responding to his gentle touch; increasing her speed, showing off to her Captain, reassuring him that she was alright and so glad to see him.
This was a private moment. The open love and a look of something so much longed for suddenly and finally achieved, with which their Captain touched his ship, drew the crew to him like moths to a flame. No one that loved his ship thus would lead them knowingly wrong.
But the Captain felt suddenly uncomfortable at their open-mouthed, admiring scrutiny.
"On deck, you scabrous dogs! Man the braces! Let down and haul to run free." He called in a strict pirate Captain voice, enjoying the way the entire crew immediately and with great zest jumped to fulfill his orders.
"Now...bring me that horizon." After such ten long years he was finally home.
"And really bad eggs…drink up, me 'earties, yo ho."
