Prompt: 38- Abandonment

It had been a long time since jack had been to the roof tops; most nights he spent in the hub or at Ianto's flat or out on a mission. Not so long ago he felt calm enough to think his life through here but his life had changed with the changes of the tea boy turned lover. But today was different, today he didn't have anywhere else to go and he had somehow ended up there.

All around Cardiff the people he had spent the past century saving were all rushing round their houses cooking turkeys and opening the presents from under their Christmas trees and then finally when everything was ready, sitting down together round their tables piled high with food to celebrate Christmas.

Jack hated this time of year the most. Other times were bad, like New Year when he still mourned the loss of his team on from the turn of the millennium but Christmas was the worst because everyone else had someone to be with, friends, family or just a few mates getting together, but he had nothing. He couldn't remember the last time he had celebrated Christmas, it might even have been as far back as with Rose and the Doctor before everything changed…

Gwen was away with Rhys for a few days to visit his parents on the boarder and Ianto was finally visiting his sister and her family. That left him alone on top of millennium centre with nothing but the view for company. He couldn't help feeling slightly abandoned…no one had invited him out for Christmas, not even a quick drink down the pub the night before. Did they just presume he had places to go or people to see? Or did they just not think that he would be alone?

Secretly, deep down somewhere he didn't let other people see, jack had hoped that Ianto would ask invite him to meet his family but it hadn't been the case. He just got a quick peck on the lips as his lover rushed out of the hub in the early hours of the morning.

The beeping of his PDA brought the Captain back to the present. Grabbing the machine from his pocket he saw the flash of the rift alert and silently cursed to himself. Couldn't the rift give him one day off, even if he would spend it on his own? Sighing, Jack began the journey back to the hub to find out what was going on. After all, it wasn't like he had anywhere better to be.

Stepping through the door into the hub the proximity alarm echoed round the empty and strangely dark hub. All the lights had been turned off and even the normal blue glow from a computer screen that had been left on was absent. The hub certainly hadn't been like this when he had left a couple of hours ago.

Just as Jack was reaching for his PDA to scan the room the lights were flicked on revealing Ianto, Gwen and Rhys all stood together with Christmas hats and party poppers. Behind them was a Christmas tree covered in decorations with presents beneath it.

"Happy Christmas" they all shouted as they pulled the party poppers, releasing a stream of coloured paper and confetti into the air.

"You didn't think we had abandoned you on Christmas did you Jack?" smirked Ianto as he ran over to his lover and held mistletoe above his head.

"Course not" Jack replied as he pulled the man in for his first Christmas kiss.

Hope you enjoyed it. Please tell me whatever you thought. I need as many tips as I can get to improve my writing. So please REVIEW :) xxx
