I was listening to Never Say Never by the Fray and this story occured.
Disclaimer: I do not own Stargate Atlantis nor do I own any of the characters.
There are some things they don't talk about. He knows it, she knows it, and yet it's there in every look and every touch. It's there when he walks her back to her room after a tough mission, his hand firmly holding her arm.
It's there when she finds him sitting alone in his room, head in his hands, and she sits next to him and puts a hand on his knee.
It's there when the two of them are trapped in a room for two days thanks to Rodney's ability to touch the one thing in a room that shouldn't be touched, especially when he and Teyla are standing in an adjacent room with a steel door that can only be opened from the outside. So the two of them are stuck listening to Rodney ramble on endlessly about how he'll get them out as fast as possible but it could take days.
There are some things they don't talk about but it's there when Rodney yells through the door that they may as well get some sleep and she curls up against him and he spends half the night absentmindedly running his hand through her hair.
There are some things they don't talk about. Everyone knows it. They see it when they spar. Clearly they want to do something else with each other, it's that obvious. But they can't and won't so instead they fight until he doesn't block fast enough and he's left wiping blood from a split lip as she walks away.
They see it when he shoves her out of the way of a blast. He would have done the same for any one of them, true, but it was there in his eyes.
They see it when they walk into the infirmary and find Teyla with her head resting on the edge of the bed, one arm stretched across John's chest. They see it when he wakes up and she smiles as he squeezes her hand.
It's there every day, the words that they don't speak because they don't need to. The words that they want to say but can't. It's there in the way he kicks a chair back for her as she approaches the table and the way that she moves over on the couch without him asking.
There are some things they don't talk about but he knows it, she knows it, and everyone knows it. There are some things they don't talk about that are spoken through actions and looks. They're so loud and resounding that eventually even though they won't talk about it, someone else will.
Kanaan tells her that he sees it, that everyone sees it. He asks her what she wants.
She finds him sitting at his desk and when he turns to ask her what's wrong she says, "I believe that I love you."
He doesn't move from his chair, just looks at her like she's asked him a trick question while pointing a Wraith stunner at him.
So she tries again. "John, he asked me what I wanted."
Again he looks slightly troubled, "Who asked you?"
"Kanaan."
Now he looks like he's trying to decide whether he needs to barricade the door or prepare for battle. "And you said?"
"You. I love you."
He doesn't get up but instead grabs her by the arms and pulls her into his lap. "I know." He kisses her and smiles, "I know."
Hope you enjoyed it!
