Sickness in the dark

It was a warm day in Barbados of 2013. Melanie was driven blind in a previous accident and had acquired the Asian Flu. As she simply wished a break from her adverse circumstances she took a vacation with me and my friends. Unfortunately due to the advanced stage of the sickness, she was educed to sunbathing by the sea. We all knew she wouldn't last long.

"Angel it feels so nice here." She said weakly smiling in the sun.

"I know, its so warm." I said. She suddenly shuttered. She coughed up blood. I quickly grabbed a handkerchief to wipe up the blood. She fell limp against her lounge chair. She was weak. She needed to rest. With that she tired to stand. She immediately fell. I helped her up, her seeing eye dog Mary came to her side. She took the leash. She was now stable and we walked. We went to a shady area then continued down the beach. Then relaxed and sat down.

"Aunt Mel you need rest." I said sweetly.

"I agree Angel." She replied weakly, as her hand was on her belly rubbing it, "Oh Angel the baby kicked."

"Aw can I feel?" I asked.

"Sure Angel." She said weakly placing my hand over hers. As she continued to rubbed the belly, a speeding cyclist craned towards Melanie. Mary quickly dragged Melanie a few steps away. As Melanie fell I grabbed her. As I pulled her to her feet, she gasped. Mary simply sat at her side. Being Blind, her seeing eye dog saved her life.

"What happened?" She asked weakly.

"A biker passed and nearly hit you. Mary saved your life." I said.

"Mary good girl." She said petting the dog softly but weakly.
