HEY-YO! So, this is officially my first Castle fic (which I am writing while I as of yet have to start a 10-page History Day paper that's kind of due tomorrow). I was watching the first episode of season 2 (because I still haven't finished watching season one—to my credit, I did watch the first six episodes within the last 18 hours) online and this just kind of came into my head. Thus, here it is!
DISCLAIMER: Of course I don't own the show or the characters of Castle. But hey, if anybody wants to change that, my birthday's in June ;)
Detective Beckett heard the door close down the hallway and paused in her work to marvel at the words that had just left her lips. 'See you tomorrow? Are you kidding me?!' She thought to herself. 'I've been trying to get rid of this guy since day one and now that I've finally gotten him out of my hair, I let him come back?!' "There has got to be something wrong with me," she murmured to herself. Suddenly a phone rang—her cell phone, she realized, and grabbed it without checking the number on the screen. "Beckett."
"Detective Beckett?"
"Wha-Alexis?!" Kate gaped silently at her computer screen, momentarily unable to understand why Alexis Castle was calling her. "Is everything okay?"
"Do you know where my dad is? He's not answering his cell phone and it's late and he didn't say where he was going and I thought he might be going to the precinct but—!" the teenage girl poured out anxiously. 'Just like a mother,' Kate thought.
"He just left here. He's perfectly fine, I promise," the detective said firmly.
"Oh, good," sighed Alexis on the other line. "I guess I was just worried because he was acting weird…"
"Weird? What do you mean?" Kate's curiosity was aroused over both Castle's strangely sincere behavior and Alexis' comments.
"Well, I got back from my "date"—he stood me up and tried to make it seem like no big deal—and Dad was acting weird. Well, I mean, weird in the sense that he was being serious for once," admitted the teen.
"Oh?" asked Kate.
"Yeah, I asked him why boys always have to justify things instead of just saying they're sorry and he got this weird look on his face and thanked me for being me. Then he grabbed his coat and said not to worry because he was just running an errand, but he didn't say where he was going or when he'd be back, so of course I was worried."
"Uh-huh…well, I just sent him on his way home, so if he doesn't show up, call me and I'll go find his ass and kick it, okay?" Alexis laughed at Kate's offer.
"Thanks, Kate…sorry for bothering you."
"It's not a problem, Alexis, really."
'So…' Kate thought to herself as she set the phone back on her desk. 'At least someone in that house makes him see sense.' Looking at her phone, she impulsively decided to make one more phone call. She knew Castle wouldn't pick up, because Alexis had said he hadn't; sure enough the call went straight to voicemail.
"Castle, it's Beckett. You better give that daughter of yours everything she wants for the next month. Including pancakes for breakfast tomorrow. And for Pete's sake, keep your damn cell phone on when you leave your house at night!"
And there it is. Nothing special, really…probably not that great, but I just wrote it down in a matter of less than 30 minutes (and I'm sick, cut me some slack here.)
