Rain pelted against the side of the house, riding on howling winds that slammed at windows. This amount of clamor didn't matter, she didn't scream. Not even as her son pulled the cold steel from her stomach. She crumpled to the ground, her strawberry-blonde hair framing her face elegantly. Always elegant, even in death, was that why he had killed her? No, he didn't even know her. That was why. Despite the cold pain writhing through her nerves, she smiled at her killer. "Can I at least get my dying wish?" She asked her voice barely a whisper.

"You're dead and the dead don't get wishes."

She ignored his blunt dismissal, "A lullaby."

He didn't respond for a moment, but he looked down at her and studied her features, "A lullaby?"

"You are my son, after all. I'd like to have at least one memory of you."

He seemed to consider this for a moment with a slight frown tugging at the corners of his mouth and then blinked, "You're crying?"

She was as surprised as he was, "I suppose so…"

Her son sighed, brushing his hair out of his face with thin fingers. "A lullaby, then." He thought for a moment while his mother lay silently in front of him. He sat down when he seemed to settle on a suitable song.

Here's a lullaby to close your eyes, goodbye
It was always you that I despised
I don't feel enough for you to cry, oh well
Here's a lullaby to close your eyes

Goodbye,
Goodbye,
Goodbye.

His voice was haunting and he sang softly, just loud enough for her to hear. She looked up at him, "Thank you." She murmured before closing her eyes, "I love you." Her shallow breaths tapered off and then stopped.

Her son stood and moved to the nearby chair and sat down wearily. He briefly wondered where she had ended up. Did all demons go to hell? Did the people who abandoned their children? He shook his head as if to chase away these thoughts, he'd had questions to ask but they had died with her. Thunder grumbled lethargically outside and he sighed, leaning back and closing his eyes.

Here's a lullaby to close your eyes, goodbye
It was always you that I despised
I don't feel enough for you to cry, oh well
Here's a lullaby to close your eyes

Goodbye,
Goodbye,
Goodbye.

The storm continued outside as he fell asleep.
