"Miss. Montez you have to understand that you're daughter's heart stopped for almost six minutes."

"What are you saying?"

"Brain damage is a possible, if not a definite."

"No, not my mija." Miss. Montez whispered as she sat back in her chair.

"I am truly sorry."

"Can we see her?" Asked the sandy hair, blue eyed teenager sitting next to her bruises and cuts on his face.

"She's not awake yet and we would still like to run some tests. I'll inform you more when she awakes." The doctor told them before walking away.

"This is all my fault." The young man said putting his face into his hands.

"No it's not Troy don't even think that." The older woman said, scolding him.

"But it is." He thought, thinking back earlier to the night's events.

A young teenage boy stood in front of the mirror patting down his sandy blond hair trying to keep it flat. Sighing he gave up and ran his hand through it. He stared at his reflection, he was wearing a blue button up shirt, brown shorts and sandals. There was knock at the door and his mother appeared.

"Troy honey you look fine."

"Thanks mom."

"You're going to be late if you don't hurry up though."

"Ok." Grabbing his car keys and wallet off the desk, he walked downstairs.

"Have a good time Troy." Said his dad who was reading the newspaper from the kitchen table, he did not look up.

"Will do dad."

"Don't be out to late either."

"Fine, bye mom, bye dad." Troy said and walked out the front door.

"Jack, try and be supportive of him. She makes him happy that's all that matters."

"I know you're right."

"Of course I am."

Troy pulled his car up to the house and opened the door, walking up to the home he rang the doorbell.

"Hi Miss. Montez."

"Hello Troy come on in, Gabriella should be down in a moment." She told him and he entered the home.

"Thank you."

"Gabriella! Troy is here!" Miss. Montez called upstairs and a pair of feet could be heard coming down the steps and Gabriella appeared at the bottom of the stairs.

"Hi."

"Hey."

"You look g-great." Troy told her and Gabriella blushed a bright red.

"Thank you, so do you."

"We should be going, don't want to be late for the movie."

"Ok." Troy took her hand and lead her to the door.

"You kids be careful all right?"

"We will."

They walk outside to the cool summer night and to the car. Troy opened the door for Gabriella before heading over to his side.

"Are you ready for a wonderful night?"

"Of course." She said smiling and they drove off down the street.

"Troy honey are you okay?" His mother questioned as she rushed into the waiting room and examined her son.

"I'm fine mom just some cuts and bruises." Troy said trying to wiggle away from her touch.

"Karen the boy's fine, leave him be." Jack told his wife, patting his son on the back.

"What about Gabriella?" Karen asked noticing Miss. Montez.

"It's not good."

"Jack, Karen it's good to see you." Miss. Montez said getting up from her chair.

"Tina I'm so sorry." Karen told her, before Miss. Montez could respond a doctor appeared.

"Miss. Montez I'm Dr. Roth we talked earlier." Tina nodded her head.

"How is my daughter?" She asked fearfully and Dr. Roth sighed.

"She's awake and we ran the tests."

"Yes?"

"Miss. Montez when you're daughter's heart stop, the oxygen flowing to her brain stopped also."

"What are you saying?"

"You're daughter is showing symptoms of expressive aphasia?"

"What is that?"

"She can't talk."
