"Peace is but a shadow of death, desperate to forget its painful past. And though we hope for promising years, after shedding a thousand tears, yesterday's sorrow constantly nears. And while the moon still shines blue, by dawn, it will turn into a scarlet hue. Sound familiar?"
Kuja was awoken by someone's voice reciting his poem. "W-Who are you?"
"I'm you."
"As in…?"
"Your conscious."
"Where am I?"
"You are in your inner hell."
"My hell?"
"Yes, the one that you've created during your lifetime."
"…"
"I thought as much. You didn't expect this, did you?"
"Quite honestly, no."
"Then what did you expect?"
"Blackness. Solitude. Speculation. Pain. A sweet irony to my life."
"So, you thought that you would've been stuck with yourself for the rest of eternity, thinking about what you've done?"
"Yes… but I assume I was wrong?"
"No, in a way, you're correct. That is your punishment."
"A punishment? Surely, the gods would've thought of another, more creative way."
"It would help if gods did exist."
"Ah, yes… now I remember. I used to believe that gods didn't exist. Only for the fact for personal drama and tragedy."
"Right, but there is no higher power. Only in books and imaginations."
"Then… why am I punished?"
"You brought this upon yourself."
"I disagree. Garland put a damn curse on me, plus blondie over at Gaia had to kill me."
"True, but you brought this upon yourself by learning what life was like."
"It was inevitable."
"Ah, yes. But that brings up the question, is ignorance bliss?"
"…"
"No answer? I know what you're thinking."
"Now that I've changed, I… oppose myself?"
"Yes, you do."
"But, surely, if I stayed insanely evil, I would've been just… dead?"
"Yes…"
"But isn't that impossible? I mean, there has to be some sort of method of death."
"No, death has its twisted logic. If you stayed evil, you would've been spared."
"…"
"You would've just rested."
"But why? Wouldn't I have still been punished by speculation to the point I would've turned 'good'?"
"Yes, you would've, but since you decided to want life, you now do not have life."
"So… I'm all alone, not to experience what I've missed?"
"Correct. You would've rested in peace, because you would've had made up your mind."
"Now, that you know your current situation, you will now never rest. Start thinking."
"…Such twisted logic…"

Heh, just a little spontaneous project I've thrown together in an hour. This is just one of my ideas of how death is. I know, I have such logic…
