Title: The Smallest Wonders of Nature

Rating: G

Characters: Prowl and Bumblebee

Parings: None

A/N: I was inspired from ante_luce's (on LJ) sparkling fic, and wanted to do one of my own. It's a sort of what if type story. What if the mini-bots had been constructed on Earth instead of Cybertron, and how would they take to the world around them? Since I have no idea what sparklings would be like, I made them more like small Earth children.

(Previously uploaded on my LJ (Ravenhallow) and some of my LJ comms.)

Summary: Bumblebee has only been online for a few days and he's a very curious bot. Prowl's his caretaker of the day in this particular fic.

The Smallest Wonders of Nature

Blue glowing optics blinked at the small, flitting creature before them. They watched the flying creature curiously. A small digit reached up to touch the creature as it fluttered by. A small quiver started in his lower lip as the small creature stayed just out of reach.

"Pwetty."

He reached for it again, only to have his attempt thwarted by the creature. He let out a little electronic squeal of frustration, startling the little creature. It zipped away, causing the little mech to let out an unhappy wail.

"Gone!" he cried.

"Shh," a voice far above his head comforted. The little mech leaned back his head, trying to see the owner of the voice. He fell backward, whimpering as he bumped his helm lightly.

Gentle hands picked up the wailing mech.

"Shh, Bumblebee," the larger mech comforted his small charge. "It'll come back soon."

The little mech gazed up into the white glowing optics of his caretaker. A small hand raised up to touch the nose of the larger mech.

"Pwowl?" he said, his optics blinking up at the older mech.

"Yes, Bumblebee. Prowl," the older mech agreed.

"Bee?"

The older mech nodded again.

"Your name is Bumblebee, little one," the older mech acknowledged. "The Prime named you after the golden yellow earth insect with stingers."

"Stingahs?" the little mech blinked, chewing soflty on his caretaker's digit.

The older mech patted the little mech's helm.

"When you're older, you'll have stingers, too, little one."

"Stingahs," the little mech nuzzled his helm into the patting palm.

Prowl smiled down at his small charge. The little mech had snuggled into his chest plate, sleepy looking optics looking up at him.

"Recharge, little one," Prowl said to the little mech. "There will be plenty of things for you to see on this planet when you awake."

Bumblebee's optics were just about to slip shut when the little green flying creature returned.

"Fly!"

He tried reaching out to it, but Prowl kept a hold of him.

"That's a hummingbird," Prowl said gently.

"Mmmngbirwd," Bumblebee tripped over the word as he reached for the bird.

"Let it be," Prowl gently enfolded Bumblebee's arm into himself. "Let it fly away."

Bumblebee yawned, snuggling deeper into Prowl's chestplate. As he drifted into recharge mode, Prowl stroked his little body.

"Sleep well, my little Autobot," Prowl said softly to his young charge.
