a/n: This song makes me think of Sirius Black while in Azkaban. After reading the lyrics several times, I was inspired to write a song fic of it. You can blame it on the plot bunnies. Damn bunnies. I don't own the song, it's Savage Garden's. I don't own Harry Potter, Sirius Black, Azkaban, or the Dementors. It all belongs to her majesty J.K. Rowling. Now back, you evil lawyers.
You Can Still Be Free
Cool Breeze and autumn leaves
Slow motion daylight....
Sirius Black looked out the barred window in his Azkaban cell. He was welcomed by the sight of golden leaves fly past. It was Halloween. The day his life ended.
A lone pair of watchful eyes....
Oversee the living....
Padfoot looked out from under the over-grown black hair that was slowly becoming gray, and gazed at what remained of the prisoners. Some crying out for their Master, in the nightmares that awaited any living thing in the hell-house called Azkaban. Others, crazily walked around their small cells, whispering to themselves.
Feel the presence all around.....
A tortured soul....
A wound unhealing....
He shivered as the Dementors walked past. The cold air, an ever- present reminder of his leaving sanity, of the many deaths, and of the pain.
No regrets or promises....
The past is gone....
But you can still be free....
If time will set you free....
Padfoot sat and waited for them to come. Once again, he went over what he was about to attempt. What had never before been accomplished... Escape from Azkaban.
Time now to spread your wings....
To take to flight.....
He ran between the clothed bodies of the Dementors. The adrenaline rush of almost being out speeding him. Of being free.
The life endeavor....
Aim for the burning sun...
You're trapped inside....
But you can still be free....
If time will set you free...
But it's a long, long way to go....
His mind raced as he ran through out the enchanted prison. Occasionally stopping to hide from the few human guards, careful not to let himself to become too excited, so as not to attract the inhuman ones. He had to be careful, there was still the chance of being recaptured.
Keep moving way up high...
You see the light...
It shines forever....
Padfoot ran up through the bowels of the building. His body racing with his mind. So many things to do. He knew that Peter was to be at Hogwarts soon, so that helped. He went back in time to remember the passageways into the castle. Picking the closest one to the Gryffendor Common Room. Leading him to Peter. Leading him to freedom.
Sail through the crimson skies....
The purest light...
The light that sets you free...
If time will set you free....
After much running, he reached the outside of the castle. Anxious to be out of the terrible place, he dove in the cold waters without a second thought. After a few feet, he had one. What if there were things in the water? What would he do then? Well, he would just have to hope that whatever it was, it wouldn't eat dogs. Looking up, he saw the sky, crimson with the dawning sun.
Sail through the wind and rain tonight...
You're free to fly tonight....
And you can still be free....
Soon, it proved that the day was going to be wet and stormy. He swam through it though, with a cheerful heart. Soon, he would be on land. Soon, he would be free.
And going higher than the mountain tops...
And go high the wind don't stop....
And go high....
As he neared the land, he changed. He wanted his first step to be as a man, not as a dog. Getting up through the water, he felt the best he had in years. He, Sirius Black, was free.
Free to fly tonight....
Free to fly tonight....
