Mutt's Not So Bad
Kaiba's cerulean eyes were narrowed in annoyance. He hadn't seen his mutt today, and was feeling more irritable than usual. He finally spotted his blonde head in an empty classroom, chin propped in his hand, staring morosely out the window.
"Mutt!" Kaiba yelled at him. "What are you doing?"
"Please leave me alone, Kaiba. I don't need your crap today." Joey replied softly.
Kaiba narrowed his eyes further. What was wrong with him? Usually he came up with a snappy retort. He walked over to the blonde, lifted him up and slammed him against the wall. "When I ask a question, I expect to be answered, mutt!"
"Leave me alone!" Joey yelled, tears forming in his eyes. This gave the brunette pause. The mutt had never cried before, no matter how much he tormented him. He had always fought back, giving off a brash exterior. This was… totally unexpected. As Kaiba stared at him, Joey closed his eyes and looked away, trying to swallow his tears. "Please Seto, just leave me alone." Now totally shocked at being called Seto, he let go, giving Joey time to turn and walk dejectedly towards the door. He, Seto, had made his mutt cry. Guilt tore through him. He looked up in determination. He was going to fix this, because tears did not look good on Joey. He needed to be smiling.
"Joey, matte!" he said, wrapping his arms around the smaller male's waist.
"Yamete Kaiba, what are you doing?!" Joey cried, trying to squirm away. His struggles continued until he heard a quiet voice say, "I didn't mean to make you cry. I'm sorry."
Joey stood there, shell-shocked at hearing the mighty Seto Kaiba apologize. To him. Hearing that made him break down completely. He sobbed into his hands, still standing in Kaiba's loose embrace. "Why do you have to always make fun of me? Don't you know how much it hurts when you call me names and push around? And I can't do anything about because I love you too much to risk losing any sort of attention from you!" Joey slapped his hands over his mouth. That hadn't meant to slip out of his mouth. "I'm sorry! I…" He was cut off as Kaiba spun him around and kissed him. Joey just stood there, way to shocked and high on cloud 9 to do anything back.
"I'm sorry I made fun of you Joey," said Kaiba as he came up for air. He pulled the blonde closer, cradling him against his body, chin resting on his shoulder. "I was really attracted to you when I first met you, and I couldn't handle that. So I started making fun of you, because I didn't want to face the fact that I could be gay and attracted to another guy. I was trying to push you away. It didn't work, and eventually I accepted my attraction. However, by that time, I knew that you must have hated me, so I kept making fun of you as an excuse to be close to you. I didn't know that you actually loved me, and how much it was hurting you. I'm so sorry." Kaiba lifted Joey's head and looked deep in his teary eyes. "I love you too, mutt." As Kaiba drew him close for a passionate kiss, Joey suddenly decided that he didn't mind being called mutt anymore. As long as he was Kaiba's mutt.
