I do not own the idea of Pokemon or claim to own anything to do with the Pokemon franchise. The only thing in this story I do own are the characters and their personalities, the idea and creation of Speals and Monsters that are in here and the plot bunnies that hop around in my head.
Speal of Deception
Prologue
The year is 2025. Exactly 30 years have passed since that life changing day, when the famous Ash Ketchum first met his faithful partner Pikachu and started the journey that changed the world.
Many things have changed since then, some made the Pokemon we grew to love stronger and more skilled, some made them wild, uncontrollable and dangerous. All were the results of research done by Professor Gary Oak, now the leader of the Viridian Gym.
The first results of his research ended with many experimants gaining different skills which were always random and unpredictable. These Pokemon are called Speals, told apart from the rest of the population by their peculiar eyes, which are always two different colours. Speals are all different and that is what makes them unique for each Speal is born with a special ability, some are given the power of telepathy, some can breathe fire for an unlimited time but the thing that makes people fear them most is when a Speal is born with unlimited strength.
At first only those bred specially in labs gained the ability to become a speal. It wasn't until they were purchased by rich trainers and eventually released into the wild that a genetic mutation took a hold of the Pokemon population and Speals were born into the wild. As the years went by more and more Speals were born as more species were infected with the mutation, Speals became more common and now consist of a quarter of the world wide Pokemon population.
The second creation of Professor Gary Oak was a complete disaster that ended in the deaths of many people and the destruction of Gary's lab and career as a Professor, this was the creation of the Monsters.
In an attempt to make Pokemon more colourful and replicate rare shiny Pokemon, something went dangerously wrong. The experiments all ended up being unpredictable and highly dangerous, as well as becoming beautiful and random vibrant colour of the rainbow. Many people ended up dying when several of the Monsters escaped and ran rampant through the streets of Viridian City, most of the escaped Pokemon were captured and put down and Gary was commanded to destroy all the Monsters in his labs.
It wasn't until a large explosion in the containment areas that things turned for the worst. All the Monsters waiting to be put down escaped into the wild where they bred with the native Pokemon in the surrounding areas. The results, all those bred from a Monster was born a Monster and slowly the wild population of Pokemon around the world were contaminated with dangerous Monsters.
With his scientific career ruined Gary swore to make up for all his mistakes and protect the people in the city that suffered the most from his creations. As he was already a strong and powerful trainer Gary became the Leader of the Viridian Gym and settled down to have a family. His wife had only one child before she passed away, a daughter they named Alexis. This, is her story.
