Prompt: Elements – Earth, Water, Air, and Fire
Poetry, 6 unbounded quatrains of 5-7 syllables per line

My rage in a cage
Was curled between scars
Wrought in a furnace
Of crumbling bars

Your blades of cold fury
Hid a tomb of raw grief
Drowned deep in the silence
Of ransomed belief

Yet a pool of black mercy
Seeped in through the gate
Washing over the embers
Of pitiless fate

The rain-spattered ashes
Returned to the dust
And out of the wasteland
Grew fissures of trust

Hissing and whirring
We savage the air
Two blood-besmirched seraphs
On wings of despair

Cracked but not broken
We carve the death stone
Still gasping in anguish
Though no longer alone.
