I grinned at the person beside me. "Morning, James."
"Morning, Lils." he said stretching. "I have an announcement to make." He seemed very nervous this morning.
"Out with it," I teased.
"Well…would you marry me?"
I tousled his hair. "Don't you know the answer, Jamie?"
He slipped a ring onto my finger. It was not just any ring. I looked in amazement at the thin bands of gold and silver twined around my finger. I took it off and looked inside. There were two sets of names there.
Adrianna Carin—Samuel Potter
Lily Evans—James Potter
"It was my grandfather's, that he gave to my grandmother, who gave it to my mother, and then to me." he said.
"It's beautiful…James," I said abruptly, "you have to know something."
"What?"
"I'm carrying our child."
Silence fell. James seemed to be gazing right through me with his hazel eyes. "When did this happen?"
I shrugged helplessly.
Abruptly, I was in his arms. His lips found mine, and I remembered that night when our child must have been conceived. "I still want you, Lily Evans. Always. My flower," he whispered.
I surrendered to him. I was lost again.
