Title- The Price for a Dream

Summary- Neither of them understood their relationship. It was simply peculiar at best. Polar opposites that did nothing but attract much in the same way magnets often do. (Dark, really short one-shot)

Rating- T to be on the safe side.

Warning- The ending isn't very happy and also it's a bit of a spoiler depending on how you go through your game. Don't want part of a game spoiled (in a manner of speaking), then just don't read. That easy.

I do not own Tales of Symphonia or any of its characters.

Neither of them understood their relationship. It was simply peculiar at best. Polar opposites that did nothing but attract much in the same way magnets often do.

One was just about as naive as they came. The other new all the rules and cheats to the game of love.

One was strong of heart and cherished each of their friends with a passion. The other never knew what a true friend was until they came along.

One was anxious and would celebrate their victories gloriously only to later beat themselves up over failures. The other was laid back and took disappointment and triumph as it came.

They were like two sides to the same coin. Completely different and yet needing of the other to be whole. If anyone else had seen it in the same way they wouldn't have argued, but no one else did see it. They didn't see it because they weren't given the chance to.

Their relationship was like a secret; a secret so arcane and treacherous that they themselves were not aware of it. A longing glance, a fleeting touch, two unlike minds thinking the exact same thing if only for a brief moment. It was beautiful and puzzling all at the same time, not completely unlike how life is supposed to be. But there was one difference that they neither could deny nor accept.

One had a dream they were willing to die for even if it meant that it would come true.

The other's dream was to die so that another's could come true.

It wasn't until the end when Zelos had revealed the ultimate act of betrayal and yearning that they both realized how heavy such a price for dreams were. As Lloyd stood there, the blood of his fallen comrade glistening off the edge of his sword, he couldn't help but feel that no dream was worth the price of never understanding what had been right before his eyes almost the entire time.

Author's Notes: Second ToS fanfic! I'm so happy I think I could cry.

Sorry if you don't like the whole Zelos/Lloyd thing going on. If you really detest that sort of thing then feel free to pretend it's two other characters you like seeing together a lot. Or better yet, just pretend they just had a very close friendship. Yeah, that's it… friendship.

Yep, been writing again after being dead for roughly a year. I have a bunch of ideas and stuff up on my computer though so don't be too surprised if you find something from me posted in the near future. (And by near future I really do mean less than a year this time)
