Tag (and an apple!)
It was the middle of June. It was very early in the morning and Van and Merle were playing 'Tag.'
"That's not fair Lord Van," said Merle, she got up and turned to her dear friend, "You made me trip so as you could catch me, your still it," Merle then ran away from Van,
"Merle you just don't want to be it because I'm so fast," said Van, but he ran after Merle anyway.
Van turned a corner in to a busy street where there was a small market.
"Damn," said Van, "She could be anywhere," Van walked through the street looking everywhere Merle could possibly be.
Allen was in the street and he was looking at apples. He occasionally picked one up and looked at his reflection in it,
"Looking good," he would say.
"Hey Allen," said Van, "First what are you doing *Allen blushes*? And second have you seen Merle around here?"
"I…I was checking the ripeness of these juicy fruits and Merle?" said Allen and he thought for a moment, "Yes, she ran past me," Allen then returned to his fruit 'testing,'
"Yes, well," said Van impatiently, "Which way?"
"Oh," said Allen, tearing him self away from his apple, "She went to the chapel, would you like me to come with?"
"Yeah, okay," said Van, "I might need some help in catching her," Van smiled and Allen looked back longingly at his apple. He reached in to his pocket and got out a small shiny coin, he tossed it at the man behind the apple stall,
"Thanks man," said Allen and he ran with Van in the direction of the chapel.
At the end of the street Van heard a 'meow' and followed the direction with Allen and his apple.
On the steps of the chapel Merle was sitting licking her paws. Her ears waggled a few times then she looked up,
"Uh oh," she said before running,
"GO!" shouted Van and he and Allen ran after Merle.
Merle stumbled and fell to the floor where she started to 'cry,'
"Oh I hurt," she wailed, "Oh Van help me up,"
"Oh Merle I should get you some help," said Van. He and Allen and the apple turned and faced the opposite direction to find someone to help,
"Merle, I can't…" said Van as he turned back but then Merle had gone,
"Aah," said Allen, "My apple!"
"Hehehe," said Merle behind the chapel, "They'll never find me here," she laughed again and bit in to a large juicy apple.
