Title: Fatherhood
Summary: Kakashi reflects on love, or the lack thereof. (In which Sakura, Sasuke and Kakashi are not one happy family, but he'll try.) No character death, drabble, canon.
Sakura, Kakashi realizes, is so much like Rin it scares him.
She is also so irrevocably in love with Uchiha Sasuke it pains him. He can see it in the way her breath hitches when he approaches, the way her eyes go round, rounder than the moon they are trying to protect from Madara's plans.
But most of all, he knows it due to the faked smile she directs to her comrades. She has been hurt, and has learned not to trust even her own judgment – Uchiha Sasuke is a missing nin who has hurt Konoha more than he has helped it, and she will wear her heart on her sleeve if it means that neither he nor her friends will know when her blade punctures his lungs, coated with poison that will stop his heart instantly.
She will save him the only way she knows how. She is not Naruto: words will do her no good, but she can rid him of his suffering with a swift death.
This, Kakashi knows. He has seen it, dealt with it (her blade trembling in her loose grip and his hand choking her neck- run, run before he kills her) and he understands there is no happy ever after for either of them.
He sees the smirk Sasuke sends to an unaware Sakura when she punches the ground and it explodes beneath her, and he thinks it is fitting. Sasuke will never love her and she will love him forever. He will chase after her (because who else will he go to, when all is said and done? Who else will he let nurse his wounds, when he breaks breaks breaks from the pain, now that he's pushed everyone away?) and she….
She will know better than to go to him.
Kakashi knows all of this. He hopes that, if he makes it out of this alive, he'll be there for both of them, one way or another.
They are, after all, his children.
OWARI
This doesn't really have a point, but I think it must portray at least a little of what he thinks and feels about their relationship.
