This is a poem I wrote quite a while ago, years in fact. I initially wrote it from Edwards' point of view, but you could also read it as coming from Al. It's just a small thought process either of them could have gone through over the course of the anime. It's not a great thing, but I hope you'll enjoy it.
Indelible Sin
We knew the consequences
We knew it was forbidden
But if only to make the impossible possible?
We would try
Was it a mistake in the formula?
The exchange not equivalent?
We'll never know
We've made our exchange
Paid the price
Our scars run deep
Into the folds of time
Our mistake, irreversible
We can never go back
