I really, really didn't think I'd be writing any fics right now, considering how busy I am, but I saw the challenge posted on Tsukimine shrine and then got trapped in one of those training sessions that seems to last forever. In my effort to stay awake, this popped into my head and I figured I wouldn't let it go to waste.

Dear Grandfather,
Happy birthday! I hope that this day finds you happy and well. Fujitaka-san showed me a picture of you that he found in the newspaper society section a few weeks ago, and I was happy to see you looking so handsome and well.
Please enjoy the present that I've sent you. I used the new flower-shaped cookie cutters that Fujitaka-san bought, but I'm afraid that the cookies don't quite match the picture in the cookbook. The colored sugar and sprinkles still give them a pretty color though, and I hope you will still enjoy them. If you squint and use your imagination, they sort of look like the flowers in the summerhouse garden. (laugh)
I'm sorry there aren't more of them. There were supposed to be, but, unfortunately that batch got burned. You see, I put the first batch into the oven and then started decorating the second batch, and it was so fun and the colored sugar was so sparkly and pretty that I completely forgot about the cookies in the oven until Touya-kun came into the kitchen and pointed out that smoke was coming out of the oven!
Fortunately, we got it under control before things got out of hand (this time anyway --laugh). I probably would have lost my silly head if Touya-kun hadn't been there. I'm so proud of him. Most six-year-olds probably would've cried or run away, but Touya-kun just walked in with the fire extinguisher and asked if he should call the fire department. I guess he's picked that up from Fujitaka-san. Touya-kun's always looking after me, just like his father. In terms of looks though, Touya-kun really takes after Father, with his dark hair and eyes. He kind of acts like him , too, the way he's so serious all the time. Very serious. But he's so sweet and gentle, especially when he holds my hand at the crosswalk and reminds me in his soft, little voice to look both ways before I cross the street.
I really wish you would come to meet him. You would absolutely love him, I'm sure. Fujitaka-san and I want you to know that you are always welcome in our home and hope you do visit us someday. Please enjoy the cookies and nadeshikos and know that this Nadeshiko misses you and loves you always.
Happy birthday from your loving granddaughter,
Nadeshiko
