Arthur Kirkland was a very predictable guy. He woke up at 6:00am every day to boil water for his morning tea and get the paper. He was at work by 7:15 and left by 4:30. He had lunch at precisely 12:00 and his afternoon tea at 5:00 when he got home. He walked his dog, Crumpet, before dinner at 7:30, and was in bed by 10:00 exactly. Today would not be any different.
He hooked Crumpet to his leash and took his usual route around the neighborhood. As they walked, Arthur took note of all the familiar sights. Lars smoking on his front porch as his sister yelled at him from inside the house. Vash cleaning one of his many guns. Gilbert forgetting to close the door to the Beilschmidt house. The large amount of cats that hung around Heracles' house (and every time they passed by, Crumpet would always try to go over and play with them).
Arthur was headed back home when he heard yapping and a panicked cry.
"Catch her!"
Arthur looked around and found a small, white dog running straight at him. He made a grab for the leash that was trailing behind her and missed, but managed to grab it the second time. The white dog yapped and tried to run but only succeeded in yanking Arthur. Luckily, she was a small dog or else he probably would've accidentally let go of her leash. Crumpet just watched his owner with slight amusement.
A blond man came running up to him. His appearance was disheveled, to say the least. His hair was sticking out in odd directions (not like Arthur could complain though) and his t-shirt and shorts were heavily wrinkled. He had sandals on too as if it were summer. September was a bit too cold to be wearing that!
"Oh my gosh, thank you!" he said looking up at Arthur with wide, violet eyes. "I don't know what I would've done! I'm so glad you caught her!"
"Er, no problem," Arthur replied handing the leash back to the owner.
"Oh! I should repay you, um…?"
"Arthur Kirkland, and there's no need," Arthur chuckled.
"No, Arthur, I have to! Are there any good coffeehouses around here or bars maybe? I'm a bit new to the area…" he said sheepishly.
"Well, I don't know about coffeehouse being a tea drinker myself, but I do know of a bar nearby."
"Great! How's tonight?"
"Tonight?" Arthur repeated surprised. He didn't make plans for this ahead of time and he had work tomorrow! Though one look at the newcomer's face and he slipped out, "Well… alright."
"Awesome! My name's Tino! Give me your hand!"
"My hand…?"
"Yeah!" And, without waiting for a response, Tino quickly grabbed Arthur's hand and flipped it over so the palm was facing upwards. Then he wrote something on it with a permanent marker he pulled out of his pocket.
"Here's my number! Call me when you get home, Artie!" Tino said happily and gave a quick wave before running off, presumably back towards his house.
Arthur watched the man bewildered and then looked down at the large, hastily-written number on his hand briefly before looking over at Crumpet. The dog looked back at him bored and Arthur blinked a few times before asking himself, "What the bloody hell just happened?"
Maybe a bit of unpredictability was just what Arthur needed though. After all, it made life more exciting. It certainly did for him.
