Path of Destruction

Summary: Sitting on that rock looking down at him sleeping only one thought came to mind. A child shouldn't have to go through this. How could the world be that cruel?

Just a small note* for these one-shots I do, unless otherwise noted they are all background scenes/thoughts and are all internconnected so one might appear in another by flashbacks for the opposite character in the pairing, etc.

The strands blew in the wind and she watched silently. It was bright, almost the color of white, and yet darker strands weaved among the others. Silver. It was an unusual color for a kid, you expected it on an adult.

Like a doctor, or scientist. Not that this kid would ever be able to do anything like that now that he had been marked by the fal'Cie

Lightning sighed and leaned back against her own rock looking up towards the sky. Normally she wouldn't want to rest like this, but after that... well whatever it was called had turned into a horse of some sorts, a mechanical one. She remembered the sudden tugging in her chest to lunge forward in the middle of the battle and strike at it. Upon doing so she had also swung herself up and onto it's back, and it simply collapsed on itself to create the horse, like it considered her it's master or something. Just suddenly kneeled down to her in a way.

She drew out a breath gaze still on the kid lying on the rock. Perhaps she had gotten the wrong impression of him after all that happened. He was still slow, and not much help on the battlefield but he had made it to her destination in the end even if it was with the others help. So he had potential to become a good fighter.

Just how was she suppose to make him into one?

She had enough on her hands with just looking after herself and now she had to watch him as well. He did seem good with electronics having gotten that mecha up and running, granted it hadn't been for very long but it had been his first shot at controlling the thing. Not that he would get a second chance if she had anything to say about it. Something that large attracted attenssion and that was the absolute last thing they needed, what with PSICOM and the Guardian Corps after them.

He shifted in his sleep and she stilled against the rock she leaned against. His head had fallen onto her thigh, hair tickling the exposed skin, breath warming not only the air but her flesh. His cheek seemed to burn her thigh from the heat it emanated.

Her breathing quickned unnaturally and she had to fight it back to normal.

She wasn't used to that. Someone, anyone touching her thigh. Even in practice combat. Lightning grabbed his shoulders and slowly raised him off her setting him back in the position he had been a moment ago.

His eye lids fluttered and she froze for a second. As his eyes began to open she let go of his shoulders and jerked away from him pushing her hands into her lap and staring forward. Her fingers twitched and she felt... flustered.

Words jumbled together to her right and she glanced over at him not catching what he had said.

"Lightning?"

Her heart stopped beating for a mere second. Had he seen her move away from him? If he had would he comment on it? The beating in her chest resumed.

"Is it time to start walking again?"

She had to stop herself from breathing a sigh of relief. "Yes."
