Ok, so I have written a couple of fics before, but I've never done an SGA one…I'm an avid reader of Sparky stories, but I never had the courage to write about John and Elizabeth myself, as I was too worried that I wouldn't do them justice. However, my resolve has weakened, and here it is…my first Sparky ficlet-thingy!!

I apologise if there are any mistakes, and also for this crazy idea. I wrote this at midnight, so my synapses may not be functioning properly…

John licked his lips nervously. This was full out war; he knew it, and she knew it.

Countless men had already been sacrificed for the greater good, and he realised with a jolt of alarm that many more of his loyal followers would not see the end of this battle. She moved in devious ways, catching him unawares, with sudden fast attacks, or, as she was doing now, slow, excruciating torture. His eyes followed each ripple of movement that he saw in her muscles. Her poker face, honed to perfection after many years of diplomatic negotiating, was set in place, not allowing him the slightest clue as to what she was thinking. It was during times like these that he wished he could read minds.

It was also during times like these that he was immensely glad that she couldn't read minds. However valiantly he tried, he was unable to stop himself from staring at her…with her poised and graceful stance, her toned stomach muscles, her brilliant green eyes…

Stop it, Sheppard. He gave himself a mental shake. She's the enemy, remember?

He saw a glint in her eyes which could only mean one thing. She had chosen her line of attack, and would now come in hard and fast. He gulped. Blood was sure to be spilled tonight, and however this ended, he knew that it was not going to be pretty.

With the exception of her, of course.

Focus, Sheppard. He berated himself again. Your brain's up here!

He tapped himself on the head, earning a rather amused look from the enemy. Ah ha! Perhaps her concentration had been broken…He felt his spirits start to rise, but her attention had already shifted back.

'How could you do this?' he demanded in a wounded voice. 'You've killed seven of my best men.'

She rolled her eyes.

'Three of them weren't very good,' she told him with a stern voice. He winced at her harsh reply.

'They were all equally as important to me,' he shot back in defence. She nodded slowly.

'Not as important as this one,' she said with an evil smirk, leaning in closer to him. They were unbearably close now. If he just reached out his hand…Her finger pressed down hard on the screen. The white bishop slid across the board to claim his knight.

'And I think,' Elizabeth said softly with a wicked smile, 'that it's checkmate.'

John Sheppard gulped audibly.

Well, there it is!! I hope you liked it!! Please review…feedback is golden…and I want to know how well I wrote them!!
