"I'm sorry I called you Janet," Cassie whispered as she drifted off to sleep. "I love you, Mom."
"It's okay, sweetheart," Janet replied, tucking a stray hair behind her daughter's ear. "It's okay.
"I'm proud of you," came a voice from the doorway.
"I'm not. Violence should never be the answer...not for me."
"Maybe not," he said, crossing the room and pulling her into his arms. "You are a healer. But you did what you had to for Cassandra."
"I know," she said, losing herself in his embrace. "Thank you for being there for me."
"I always will be."
