It was weird, she supposed. That how, after the last two years full of Heartless, Nobodies, battling and hoping, that they were back home. Living at home rather than living wherever they set up camp for the night.
Just a few days after they returned, Sora and Riku were set to go back to school. Not that their adventure didn't have their toll of course – they both had been set back a year because they simply hadn't had the knowledge and understanding their peers had.
Which, to Sora's horror, meant that both she and Riku were a year above him. Which further meant they'd have to leave school before he did.
As she walked on the sands of the beach, she remembered how, after returning from the World That Never Was herself, she'd spend all the free time she had on those sands. Just sitting there, watching and waiting. She remembered how it worried her not as close friends Selphie, Wakka and Tidus. The three, who although did miss and worry about Sora and Riku, found their time better spent socializing and in the boy's case, playing Blitzball.
As she sat herself down on the beach, she remembered how she was there when the two boys – although, after all they had been through, it felt weird to call them simply boys – arrived back home, back to the Destiny Islands. She remembered the sheer joy she felt when Sora gave back her lucky charm – signifying their kept promise.
On the side, she'd never forget Sora's face on learning that after everything that had happened, that, yes, he was expected to go back to school as soon as possible.
As she looked to the sea, she saw something glittering slightly in the sun. She watched it as it slowly came into shore. It was a letter in a bottle, eerily reminiscent of the letter she sent to Sora when she finally regained her memories of him.
As she lightly picked it up, she was able to see writing on a piece on paper that had unfurled. She was able to recognize the somewhat childish writing.
Kairi slightly grinned. Riku and Sora would be happy – because after all, maybe, just maybe thing's weren't back to normal just yet.
Author's Notes: Eek! My first fanfic in what...must be over two years? Anyways, first of all, I haven't seen the cutscene of where Sora, Riku and Kairi read the letter from King Mickey yet, so I don't know if Kairi already knows who it's from.
Second of all, if you're going to review, don't be afraid to make constructive criticisms and tips on how to improve my writing, 'kay thanks
That's all for now:3
