Gumshoe entered his office and closed the door a little bit stronger than needed. The door made a loud BANG noise, and all the other officers looked in the direction of Gumshoe's office. Why did the Detective apply such force on his innocent door? He was very, very angry. Reason? Someone stole his Yumma chocolate which he entrusted to Officer Meekins for safe-keeping. And, worse of all, he knew who did it. It was none other than the Ace Attorney himself, Phoenix "Nick" Wright.
An image popped into Gumshoe's mind. An image showing Phoenix as he opens Gumshoe's chocolate with an evil, maniacal grin. Phoenix was enjoying the moment. He knew that as soon as Gumshoe finds out who stole the Yumma chocolate he paid with his more-than-hard-earned cash, he would cry in despair, as his dearest snack in all the world was gone, and he couldn't do anything about it because Gumshoe owes Phoenix some favors from times long past. He can't bring Phoenix to justice, because of his skills as an Ace Attorney, not only would he get himself an acquittal, but he would also convince the entire court that the chocolate wasn't in fact stolen, just hid from sight in order to blame him for the crime. Gumshoe would then lose his job because of false accusations and criminal acts, and his salary would go from extra low to non-existent.
Yes, Phoenix did this to torture poor Gumshoe, who can't do anything to get what's rightfully his. At that moment, Gumshoe swore that he would never ask or do a favor for vile Phoenix, and that their friendship is hereby over, and no person, thing or piece of evidence could restore it.

Phoenix entered the Wright and Co. Law Office after finishing his work in the Police Department. Maya happily ran to Phoenix : "I'm glad you're here, Nick! If it wasn't for Pearl, I would've died of boredom. What were you doing at the police anyway?"
Phoenix replied: "Well, nothing special. I put up a lost item report for that watch Gumshoe gave me at Christmas."
"It took you a lot of time. Are you hungry? My tummy sure could use a burger or two..."
"Actually, I'm not hungry. While I was waiting, I helped Officer Meekins to find a file he was looking for. As a sign of gratitude, he gave me a chocolate. He said it was Detective Gumshoe's, but he wouldn't mind, because since he won the lottery, his table drawers are full of Yummas anyway."
