Idk what it is about Kurogiri/Black Mist he's just.. mysterious, even for someone being made of space. Being polite, keeping his kids in check, with no apparent benefit at hand... I like the guy. Anywho, there's this (apparently) popular theory that he has/had a daughter? I felt like dong something with that idea and this almost drabble-like thing is what happened to that plan.
One mustn't use their quirk in public, unless it's part of their occupation or there's an emergency.
That was the only reason he got a driving license in the first place, despite the fact that he could have warped anywhere at any time. Funny, considering how as a kid, he thought it was dumb… opening a gate through space-time was more efficient and safe (and cool), after all. But he mellowed down fast, got wiser after, and then there he was. His job didn't require it, either, so it was almost as if he didn't have a quirk in the first place.
He never had a reason to question how things were.
Not until he found himself face to face with a truck, the last memory being an arm grabbing his in fear as the headlights close in… And then everything went dark- too dark.
The only ray of hope was the rhythmic beeping of machines. One set of machines. The other was never used for the initial patient to begin with.
She died on the spot, there was nothing they could do. But he could handle it… it was a miracle that they survived at all. Broken leg, arms, ribs, the weight on his heart, the blame to take… as long as he had his little star still beside him, all was going to be fine.
But it wasn't meant to be.
In a few days, every test, every examination pointed towards the one obvious conclusion: brain dead. It was suggested that they put the girl out of her misery.
But he refused to let go. There must have been something he could do, someone who could still help out there… so he started moving from hospital to hospital. From city to city. Country to country. To no avail.
He was running out of time, and as long as he could keep the littlest hope alive, he was ready to do everything. Anything at all.
Descending into the underground. Kidnapping her, all the equipment, and even the corpse. Even raising another child, the same age as his treasure, into madness.
On some days, he thinks he'd gone mad, too; questioning if he had any humanity left inside at all. Then remembering that he was a terrible father to begin with, followed by sleeplessly dreaming away the night with blinding lights, shrieking brakes, tire traces, and children laughing in the distance. Somewhere deep, he knows he's left desperation behind and is just plain terrified.
The car is too fast and there will be no brakes this time.
