Six months after the birth of the triplets, Tony and Ziva are sent undercover, but they can only take one baby with them, Caitlin. Their relationship newly re-established, Jenny and Gibbs offer to care for Tali and Shiloh while their parents are undercover posing as navy officers on the Pensacola base, as a serial killer targeting infant children threatens the safety of baby Kate.
Prologue – NAS Pensacola, FL
Lieutenant Commander Isaac Morrison walked back to the barracks he resided in with his wife and infant son, the glow of the full moon lighting up the path he almost knew by heart. The Pensacola base was home to 60 000 people, and he was one of them. It made him feel like part of a family, part of the greater good.
He smiled further, and turned down the last path leading towards his apartment. He and Jodee were still waiting for their new house to pass inspection before they could move in; Isaac was concerned about baby Parker's health.
Isaac climbed the stairs to his second floor apartment, glad Jodee had left the porch light on for security. He smiled as he pulled out his keys; tomorrow was his last day before they had the weekend off to spend together.
He reached the front door and noticed it was slightly ajar, which was strange, because Jodee always locked the door, always. Isaac put his keys back in his pocket and removed his service weapon from the holster on his hip before walking cautiously up to the door, holding the weapon securely in front of him.
He tapped the door open with his foot, poked his weapon around the door, his head not far behind it. The sight he was greeted with shocked him.
The living room had been turned upside down; there were books everywhere, the television was on the floor, the lamps were smashed all over the carpet. He tried to stay professional as he walked into the kitchen, which looked similar to the living room. It almost scared him to think what the master bedroom looked like; or worse, the nursery.
Isaac hurried to clear the bathroom, which looked like the rest of the apartment. The nursery was next; Isaac panicked when he couldn't find his son anywhere. He rushed to the master bedroom and almost fainted.
Jodee was naked and tied to the four-poster bed with his ties, her body covered with blood and lacerations. Her eyes were frozen open in shock, a haunted look frozen on her face. Just looking at her from the door, he knew his beloved wife was dead. He entered the room, trying not to touch anything to disturb any evidence, looking for his son.
"Parker?" he called, not finding the six-month-old boy anywhere. "Parker!"
