Unprejudiced
Of all the humans that I have encountered, I believe Dr McKay to be the most truly unprejudiced.
He did not stare when we were introduced, nor did he talk about me as though I was not there. Instead he demanded information and snapped instructions at me, and then berated me for not responding quickly enough.
In short, he treated me exactly the same way he treated everyone else.
Some of the others tried to tell him that his behaviour was inappropriate and he should exhibit more care in how he spoke to me. His response was a disdainful look and a blunt announcement that he had no intention of 'mollycoddling' me in order to pander to their delicate sensibilities and that if I was as intelligent as I was supposed to be I wouldn't wish him to.
He is correct. I find it...refreshing.
His mind is extraordinary, able to make leaps that are beyond anything I have encountered in another, either human or Asgard, but it is his personality that I appreciate most. With him, I am accepted, an equal. With everyone else, I am apart.
I am there to provide answers but they do not see me as one of them or accept me as part of their crew. I make them uncomfortable, many act as though I am simply an extension of the ship's systems. Some even seem to feel that I am like a mascot or talking pet, although such behaviour is rapidly eliminated, or at least concealed, following the diatribe unleashed the first time Dr McKay witnesses it. With him, there are no barriers. We are simply two scientists, working together, sometimes simply talking together.
I shall be sorry when we arrive at Atlantis and have to say goodbye to my...friend.
