Author's note: In the TNG episode "The Game", Wesley reveals to Data that Adam Martoni pulled a practical joke on him during his first week at the academy. This is the story of that particular event.

The Joke

Wesley removed his towel, and stepped into the sonic shower. It was early, and he was still half-asleep. On the Enterprise, he had to get up early, but not this early. His first class was in an hour, and he still had a lot to do. As it was his first week at the academy, he hadn't quite gotten into the swing of things. Thus, he still had half an essay to write before his first class.

"Shower, on." He commanded. As the shower started, Wesley immediately knew that something was wrong. Heavy, dark sludge spewed out of the walls and covered him.

"SHOWER OFF!!!!!!!" He shouted, very loudly. He looked down at his filthy body. It was mud. And it wasn't any ordinary mud. It smelled. Badly. He quickly replaced his towel, grabbed his clothes, and rushed out of his quarters and across the hall.

KNOCK KNOCK

Wes tapped on Adam's door, hoping that he would be awake, and willing to allow him use of his sonic shower. The door swung open moments later to reveal a fully-dressed cadet with a wide smile on his face.

"So I see you decided to take a shower." Adam said, now stifling his mounting laughter. Wesley suddenly realized why his friend was smiling. It was him.

"Just let me in. I need to use yours." He said with a scowl as the cadet moved aside. He quickly moved to the bathroom and closed the door behind him. Wesley finally relieved himself of his grime, and dressed.

When he came back out of the bathroom, Adam had already left. His first class began earlier than Wesley's. He left for his own quarters to finish his essay, and to formulate his evil plan for revenge.
